Eolaithe Óga

Tá triúir dhalta ó Bhliain 9 ag iomaíocht i gComórtas na nEolaithe Óga 2017 i ndiaidh dóibh áit a bhaint amach sa bhabhta ceannais amach as 2091 iarratasóir ar an chomórtas i mbliana. Beidh tionscadal na foirne ar cheann de na 550 atá ar taispeáint san RDS i mBaile Átha Cliath ag an taispeántas i mí Eanáir. Tá an comórtas ar cheann de na seóthaispeántas ETIM (Eolaíocht, Teicneolaíocht, Innealtóireacht agus Matamaitic) is mó ar an domhan agus tá nathán chomórtas na bliana seo “Dream it, Do it” léirithe ag daltaí GCD, Rhíannon, Ferdia agus Cliodhna, fríd a dtionscadal ag iniúchadh ar éifeachtaí leictriceimiceach agus eile atá ag cadhnairí cnaipe ionghafa.


Three Year 9 pupils are competing in the BT Young Scientist of the Year competition 2017, securing a place in the final out of 2091 entries, and will be one of the 550 projects on display in Dublin in January 2017. The competition and accompanying exhibition is one of the world’s longest-running STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) showcases and GCD pupils Rhíannon, Ferdia and Cliodhna have given life to the competition’s maxim ‘Dream it, Do it’ with their project proposal for investigating the electrochemical and other effects of ingested button batteries.

As a former Irish and European champion of the Aer Lingus Young Scientist of the Year and the EU Contest for Young Scientists, Gaelcholáiste Dhoire science and technology teacher Barra Ó Dochartaigh is an experienced mentor to the competing pupils as pilot tests are run, hypotheses are proposed, data is collected and conclusions are drawn.
